Sensory Stimulation Through Acrobatic Recreation

Sensory Stimulation Through Acrobatic Recreation is a program through Tumble City which provides activities in a fun setting for individuals with sensory deficit disorders. We offer a class that is part structured and part open which allow individuals to experience instruction and creative exploration. Classes are open to any individual three years to ten years with an adult partner. We have instructors who will assist the adult partner in guiding the student through different activities designed to enhance sensory integrative functions.

We at Tumble City recognize the benefits of physical fitness to an individual’s mind and spirit as well as the body. Locomotion, Spatial Awareness and Sensory Integration are important facets of our human development.  While there are many different types of sensory integrative activities, we feel that movement is one of the most basic. Learning how space and objects relate to our body and its movement is a fundamental developmental necessity.  Individuals who may experience difficulty in certain types of touch, motion or interaction benefit from acrobatics due to the nature of activity.  We spin, roll, balance, swing, jump, sing, hold, crawl, climb, slide, etc. In addition, we use floor time to encourage social skills and communication skills.  In the process of developing the basic skills for growth, we also learn gymnastics and acrobatic skills!  Strength, coordination and flexibility are naturally developed over a period of time with consistent participation.

All our SSTAR staff love children! We are dedicated to assisting your student in reaching the highest potential in his or her development.

Cheryl Hunter
Mother of a boy with Autism, Cheryl has been teaching gymnastics and movement education for over twenty years. She implemented the SSTAR program to offer the benefits of acrobatics to other children like her son.

Wendy Kay Dinkel
As the aunt of a child with Autism and the mother of a child with sensory deficit disorders, Wendy has been teaching alongside Cheryl since 1986. With a background in child development, Wendy understands the importance of movement education and is a great believer in the benefits of floor time.

Classes begin in September with a parent orientation and registration meeting on August 22nd.  Please call 909-795-0499 for additional information or to be placed on the list for the meeting.
